Yesterday, State Senator Ann Duplessis along with the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation presented the New Orleans Police Department with 30 bullet proof vest for 5th and 7th District police officers. In attendance for this momentous occasion was Deputy Chief Marlin Defillo, 5th District Captain Bernadine Kelly, 7TH District Captain Jerome Laviolette, BOP President Lt. Simon Hargrove and other members of the New Orleans Police Department.

Duplessis Takes Action to Stem Crime in District 2

(New Orleans, LA) Today, State Senator Ann Duplessis along with the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation presented the New Orleans Police Department with 30 bullet proof vest for 5th and 7th District police officers. Senator Duplessis has been an aggressive advocate for the growth and redevelopment of her district, which encompasses Eastern New Orleans, the Lower Ninth Ward and Holy Cross. Duplessis has continued her pre-Katrina practice of yielding to her constituents all the resources available to her, in an effort to support and assist wherever she is needed. After Hurricane Katrina, the residents of District 2 have courageously sought to reclaim their community. With Senator Duplessis’ help much has been accomplished. However, the recent crime wave plaguing the city of New Orleans has threatened to derail those efforts to restore and rebuild.

In attendance for this momentous occasion was Deputy Chief Marlin Defillo, 5th District Captain Bernadine Kelly, 7TH District Captain Jerome Laviolette, BOP President Lt. Simon Hargrove and other members of the New Orleans Police Department.

"Police officers make the supreme sacrifice in the name of duty, risking life and limb to keep our families and our community safe," said Senator Duplessis. "Providing bullet proof vest for our city's crime-fighters is the very least we can do."

The endeavor to return has a valiant ally in the senator willing to do whatever it takes to bring safety and prosperity back to Senate District 2, Senator Duplessis is taking care of business!

"We still have a lot of work to do, we hope that this is the first of many initiatives to assist the officers of the 5th and 7th district stations," says Tiffany Crawford, Executive Director of the District 2 Community Enhancement Corporation.

Senator Duplessis has taken yet another aggressive step to take care of business in District 2.
