SUNO to offer River Parishes residents college courses

NEW ORLEANS, LA - Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) will offer
courses to River Parish residents starting in the fall of 2008.
Instruction will take place at East St. John High School in Reserve,
Louisiana beginning in August. Not only will SUNO offer courses for
college but the institution will also offer Dual Enrollment classes for
high school students to get a head start on earning college credit.

Registration for the classes will be held at East St. John High School
on:
Thursday, August 14th 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Friday, August 15th 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Saturday, August 16th 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The college classes offered will be various levels of: English
Composition, College Mathematics and Business. SUNO will also offer
introductory classes in Sociology, Education and Social Work.

“SUNO is an institution that prides itself on providing higher
education access to the community,” comments Dr. Donna Grant,
Executive Director of Enrollment Services. “My colleagues and I are
excited about offering this prime opportunity to those who need the
convenience and support that are characteristic of SUNO.

The move was triggered by the population shift from the New Orleans
metropolitan area due to Hurricane Katrina. SUNO felt it necessary to
serve the population with its highly accessible academic programs. By
offering citizens these introductory courses, SUNO will be able to offer
students additional opportunities to take advantage of strong, unique
academic programs such as Social Work, Criminal Justice, Substance
Abuse, etc.
