Job Title: Positive Behavior Interventionist Support Specialist
Reports to: Principal
General Summary:
The PBISS establishes a positive learning environment that promotes a high
level of achievement for a diverse population of students in the school.
Job Responsibilities:
Serves as the in-school suspension teacher.
Provides instructional assistance and encouragement to students to complete
their assignments during in-school suspension.
Serves as the school-based PBS facilitator/coach.
Establishes the goals and objectives for School-Wide Positive Behavior
Support, in conjunction with the PBS team, PBS Team Leader and School
Administrator.
Develops and coordinates PBS practices and procedures, including
alternative to suspension programs within the school.
Plans and administers a system for providing support, technical assistance,
consultation, and training to faculty and staff.
Develops and maintains the PBS budget with the school-based accountant or
administrator.
Manages the preparation, review, and submission of reports and survey forms
required by local, state and federal agencies on a timely basis.
Works with teachers, counselors, social workers, public and private
agencies and organizations within the community to secure and provide
appropriate social skills education to all children, including those who
are at risk of suspension or expulsion, and to establish effective liaison
activities.
Serves as an integral part of the Response to Intervention Team.
Participates in staff development and training.
Represents the district at professional meetings and conferences and on
task forces and committees related to PBS at the local, state and national
levels.
Assists principals with the submission of reports and in recommending long-
and short=range objectives for the school.
Interprets PBS curricular and instructional programs to various audiences
and communicates programmatic information to parents and community members.
Clarifies the purpose, goals, and policies of the in-school intervention
program for teachers, parents and volunteers.
Demonstrates empathy for and understanding of the dynamics of families with
students with special needs.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Those requirements as outlined in Louisiana Bulletin 746 (Louisiana
Standards of State Certification of School Personnel) for teachers.
Working Conditions:
Will work in a school-like setting, with a climate-controlled environment
and in outside areas subject to climate extremes. Work day consists of
hours of assigned school site.
Job Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend and lift up to 10 pounds.
Must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in
writing.
Must be able to give and receive information electronically.
Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with school and
district personnel and the public.
Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
Must be able to respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions
for improvement.
Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
Must keep accurate and up-to-date records.
Must comply with state and district regulations, policies and procedures.
Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs.
Must be able to use effective classroom management techniques.
