OFFICIAL STATEMENT
FROM THE CITY ATTORNEY

In a March 25 email and a March 27 letter, I responded to a request from Councilmember Stacy Head that a representative from the City Attorney's Office appear at today's Housing & Special Needs Committee meeting regarding the City's review of the New Orleans Affordable Homeownership. In my response, I indicated that I did not recommend proceeding with a public hearing on this matter and that I would not recommend that any City official speak regarding this matter in which federal subpoenas were issued and in which City officials could be called as witnesses. I further noted that as City Attorney, I believe such public discussion may impede the progress of the litigation.

The City Attorney's Office also provided each Council member with a binder of all of the documents requested.

My office has every intention of recovering from contractors all payments that are unsubstantiated, due and owing to the City.

The City's review of the NOAH issue is ongoing and the City has not closed any files. I am unaware of any final determination as to the plans of NOAH while past activities have not been resolved and/or still remain under investigation by other authorities.
