Discount Retailer, General Stop, To Open March 28

NEW ORLEANS - On Saturday, March 28, 2009, The Urban League of Greater New Orleans Women's Business Resource Center (WBRC) joins the celebration of entrepreneurial training alumni, Jacqueline Smith, in the grand opening of the General Stop at 7070 Read Boulevard in eastern New Orleans. The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the public, community, civic and business leaders are invited to attend.

The General Stop's proprietor, Jacqueline Smith, a native New Orleanian, received three years of extensive business training at the Urban League's WBRC before opening the store. Smith's entrepreneurial training included how to develop an effective business plan to secure funding and business accounting. The assistance proved to be essential to obtaining a small business loan to open the General Stop. In addition to the business training, WBRC arranged for a certified professional accountant to train Smith how to set-up and proficiently use QuickBooks and a marketing firm contracted to develop a marketing plan. "The business mentoring at the Urban League's WBRC gave me confidence to open my business," said Smith.
