Supplemental Tax Bills Mailed to West Bank Residents

New Orleans, LA (March 20, 2009) --The City of New Orleans has mailed supplemental property tax bills for 4,600 properties in the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - West Bank, on behalf of the Algiers Levee District.

The supplemental tax bill is necessary because the 2009 tax bills were calculated using Algiers Levee District's 2008 millage rate rather than the 2009 millage rate of 12.76 mills. The supplemental tax bill is for the difference of 3.48 mills. The supplemental tax totals approximately $600,000.

Taxes collected by The Authority for the Algiers Levee District provide funding for flood protection efforts in your district.

The Supplemental Real Estate and Personal Property Tax will become delinquent if not paid in full before May 1, 2009. If the property has other delinquent taxes, they also will be listed with the appropriate interest and penalty charge.

To pay the supplemental bill, taxpayers can visit the City of New Orleans' website, www.cityofno.com, and go to the Bureau of Treasury webpage http://www.cityofno.com/Portals/Portal97/portal.aspx, or they can mail a payment with the bill payment stub to: City of New Orleans, Bureau of Treasury, P.O. Box 60047, New Orleans, LA 70160.
