NEW BILL WILL ELIMINATE INCOME TAX FOR 18-29 YEAR OLDS IN LOUISIANA

Rep. Walker Hines, D-95 New Orleans, seeks public input and comment on his bill at Policypitch.com

New Orleans, Louisiana – State Representative Walker Hines has proposed a bill that would eliminate state income tax liability for residents aged 18-29 currently enrolled in college or with a college degree. Hines sees this bill as a progressive move to fight brain drain in the State. “This is a step in the right direction for attracting a talented workforce to Louisiana,” said Hines.

Hines has proposed the bill to Louisiana residents at Policypitch.com, a new website that allows users to communicate directly to their state representatives and communicate with other residents about the issues they care about most. Hines posted the bill at Policypitch to hear from citizens and receive feedback. “I am really trying to open up this two-way dialogue with the public. I want to get citizen’s opinions; I want to hear what our residents have to say and work with them on this bill,” said Hines.

Policypitch.com is an online forum for introducing and discussing community ideas. The platform allows users to pitch new public policy and community ideas, vote, rank, and rate others’ ideas in their community. The public can also start petitions, accept online donations, and build support for their ideas. “This online medium will facilitate better, more comprehensive public policy making,” says Hines. “Policypitch is an innovative online tool that has the potential to change political discourse in the 21st century.”

Policypitch was launched by local New Orleanian Zach Kupperman. “We are trying to change the way that the public interacts with their elected officials. Society is moving towards a bottom-up approach to creating public policy. We are entering the era of the community authored wiki bill,” says Kupperman.

Policypitch.com, launched in beta in 2008, will soon offer free legislative tracking for Louisiana, and eventually the entire United States. The site provides tools for users to pitch ideas to their community, connect with elected officials and like-minded citizens, and transform online communication into real world action. Hines is the first of many representatives that will soon be taking advantage of PolicyPitch.com to better address and represent the public.
